Silly Milly is a giant riddle book but the format is kind of confusing。 The riddle should be more clearly stated but other than that the book is silly and fun for all children。 You could easily use this book for children learning to read (1-3) and for older children for the fun riddle (3-5th)。 Silly Milly only likes things with double letters but there is no plot to this book。

This book is great for the level one reader because of the colorful images and easy wording。 I got lost within the pages of this book, because there is so much detail, I could spend 20 minutes just examining each page。 The word choice was so clever with the ending affirming that。 Once the book ended I went back and looked at every page just to see if everything she liked contained two of the same letters。 This book is so unexpected and cleverly written。

It’s always a good feeling when you have no idea what the solution is to a riddle in a children’s book。 :)

Silly Milly is most definitely a story for beginner readers。 There is so much rhyming in the book it helps students with sound repetition。 It's also great because students can repeat the sounds and try to figure out what she doesn't like。The pictures in the book are very vibrant and fun。 Which, along with the riddles and rhyme help keep the children engaged and interested as, they are trying to solve the riddle。 Silly Milly is most definitely a story for beginner readers。 There is so much rhyming in the book it helps students with sound repetition。 It's also great because students can repeat the sounds and try to figure out what she doesn't like。The pictures in the book are very vibrant and fun。 Which, along with the riddles and rhyme help keep the children engaged and interested as, they are trying to solve the riddle。 。。。more

You, likely, are somewhat closer to the small person you are reading to than I am。 You might make it through this book as many as 4-5 times before throwing it out the window。 It's pretty fun on the first read through。 You, likely, are somewhat closer to the small person you are reading to than I am。 You might make it through this book as many as 4-5 times before throwing it out the window。 It's pretty fun on the first read through。 。。。more

Bright colorful pictures on each page to engage the child。 I daughter loved the book and it contains good vocabulary to learn。 The book it self would be the activity and having the children guess the riddle about Silly Milly。 It would be fun to see what the children come up with。

I've gotta be honest: the book is presented as a riddle and the answer totally took me by surprised。 It was fun to go back and look at what Milly likes and how it fits into the riddle's answer。 I've gotta be honest: the book is presented as a riddle and the answer totally took me by surprised。 It was fun to go back and look at what Milly likes and how it fits into the riddle's answer。 。。。more

Bright pictures full of discussion possibilities, add a lot to this book。 Short sentences on each page, with a mystery solved on the last page。 Double letter words are part of this book, adding a skill level for new readers。 Silly story definitely appeals to new young readers, helping to mask sounding out word frustrations。

Lewison, Wendy Cheyette。 Silly Milly。 (2010)Annotation: Miss Milly like words like "butter" and "seeds", but does not like words that seem to go with the words she does like such as "bread" and "flowers"。 You have to figure out why she likes those words but not the other。Themes: spelling, likes and dislikesWays to use with children: Since this is a riddle book you can have the students figure out why she likes those words。 You can also talk about the relationships between the words put together。 Lewison, Wendy Cheyette。 Silly Milly。 (2010)Annotation: Miss Milly like words like "butter" and "seeds", but does not like words that seem to go with the words she does like such as "bread" and "flowers"。 You have to figure out why she likes those words but not the other。Themes: spelling, likes and dislikesWays to use with children: Since this is a riddle book you can have the students figure out why she likes those words。 You can also talk about the relationships between the words put together。Recommended ages: 5- 14 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Both my boys (ages 4 & 8) thought this was a fun book to read。 They could not figure out the riddle until they read the answer at the end。"This is a riddle about Miss Milly。 Can you guess why she's so silly? She likes green。 She does not like red。She likes butter。 She does not like bread。"The book goes on with more things that Miss Milly likes and dislikes。 It ends with, "Miss Milly is so silly。 Can YOU tell me why?" Miss Milly replies, "I only like things with double letters。" Both my boys (ages 4 & 8) thought this was a fun book to read。 They could not figure out the riddle until they read the answer at the end。"This is a riddle about Miss Milly。 Can you guess why she's so silly? She likes green。 She does not like red。She likes butter。 She does not like bread。"The book goes on with more things that Miss Milly likes and dislikes。 It ends with, "Miss Milly is so silly。 Can YOU tell me why?" An interesting early reader book where Silly Milly only likes things that have double letters in them。 The book has a repetitive pattern and rhyming to help beginning readers decode the text。 However, the pictures, while fun and silly are overly detailed which makes the pictures hard to decode for picture support to understand the text which is needed at this level of reading。
